About the CFD

Membership: Academic Educator

An Academic Educator is a health sciences faculty member who has demonstrated accomplishment and is engaged in educational scholarship and leadership which could include curriculum planning, program development, program evaluation, teaching/supervision innovation, and/or faculty development. The appointment is renewable every 3 years.

There is an opportunity to obtain the faculty developer designation within this category. It will identify individuals who have demonstrated accomplishment in the development, delivery and/or evaluation of faculty development activities and identifies this as a focus of their scholarly educational activity.


    • Hold a faculty appointment in one of the Health Science Faculties, University of Toronto, or at another health professions education institution in Toronto
    • Demonstration of involvement /accomplishment in curriculum planning, program development, program evaluation, educational research, education leadership, teaching / supervision innovation, and/or faculty development


    • Active participation in education research, scholarship and/or leadership activities
    • Contribution to the CFDs activities: i.e. rounds, workshops, committees
    • Mentorship of faculty (peer/individual) with an interest in teaching , scholarship and / or education leadership
    • Annual summary of academic education activities for inclusion in the CFDs annual report (template will be made available)
