Frequently Asked Questions

Faculty Development is a broad range of activities that institutions use to renew or assist faculty, supervisors, preceptors, field instructors, clinical educators, and status appointees in their roles. These activities are designed to improve an individual’s knowledge and skills in teaching, education, administration, leadership and research.
Our programming and activities are aimed at any individual or group who has a role relating to teaching, education, and academic work in their healthcare organization or setting.

There is no need to register in advance for our rounds.

You can simply:

There is a cost to participate in some of our programs. The cost of each of our programs varies and in some cases, the cost varies depending on your status with the Faculty of Medicine at UofT and/or in which hospital you work.

Those with or without a faculty appointment in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto who have a role in teaching and education are welcome to attend our workshops. There is a $50 fee per workshop for those who do not have a faculty appointment and are not employees of St. Michael's Hospital.

We reserve 3 spaces in each of our workshops for senior residents/fellows who wish to attend. Enrollment in Stepping Stones is dependent on available space and made on a case by case basis. If you are interested in the program, contact Farah Friesen.

Our Accessible Resource for Teaching (ART) program is an online learning tool which was created to bring faculty development to the teaching practice context through the use of short, focused modules that can be used flexibly by individuals or groups. This program is open to anyone and is free to use.

For those interested in Academic Leadership, the New and Emerging Academic Leaders Program (NEAL) is available to those from across Canada and internationally. The goal of the program is to foster a productive, visionary and collaborative academic leader in the Academic Health Science System. The program runs for 4 days, 3 times per year in Toronto however pre-work and the work in between modules can be done remotely.
